Hello Guys,

This is my first post, and I am Newbie here..

I am planing to get a Yaris...but in Auto, please dont ask y... :crybaby:

Just wondering if there is anything I have to look out for when I go see the car...

Its done 80K miles...has FSH and lots of bills as well, so i have been told...

If this question seems utterly meaningless, please forgive me... 2000 March model Yaris... does it run on cambelt or cam chain..???

Any advice would be helpful

Regards

Toyo

Welcome Toyo

The best guide is that written at Honest John.. Reviews..http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/

Check the auto gearchanges are smooth and no jerking. Do reverse and check for bangs and crashes.

Watch out for rust on the rear suspension and the front and rear springs... which can break if rusty and driven over speed humps/ ££s.

Anti roll bar bushes at front wear - clonk over bumps but £s.

Smoke on warm up, oil leaks. Rusty exhaust system especially rear box and pipe to back box which gets mud and spray and corrodes.. ££s.

Cam chain - so check the auxiliary drive belt for cracks and the chain for rattles when idling and at start up. Chains do wear if oil is not changed regularly and £££s to replace. Otherwise they last the life of the car.

I don't know if yours has ABS: check.. (ABS distribution block on passenger side of engine compartment.. lots of pipes in and out), If it has, check the ABS warning light on dash comes on when ignition turned on and goes out. Some nasty people hide ABS failure by removing bulbs.. (usually passenger side front sensor failure easy fix but ££s)
