I cannot be specific, but on the model you have it really is quite tricky, my brother and i tried to fit one to his 4.2 and frankly gave up, he had one fitted by Tunit who assured him it was a 20min job It took them 1+1/2hrs, It is completely different than the 4.3 models  I would contact Kingo who will advise on fitting + maybe his "CHIP" which i would reccomend is fitted in a different way  Stew

Hi, I have a chip for a 4.3 that I bought from Kingo (lindop toyota) http://www.lindoptoyota.co.uk/diesel-performance-chip-kits.html

. It improves the car no end. I'm selling my RAV so I have the chip for sale. Takes 10 mins to fit. It's a year old and is available for £250.

If you Google "Tunit" it will take you to their website where their is a FAQ section which will answer this and many other questions, This is not telling you to buy a "chip" from them as i have little knowledge of their products and i use and reccomend a Lindop "chip" on my car  Stew

To try and partially answer your question and i am no expert, Toyotas are built for a World market, hot countries + cold ones. countries with poor diesel, dusty climates, and heavy snow etc, so they build in tolerances to allow for this, good tuning companies can optimise your engines characteristics and even your driving style, you may want more low down torque, faster overtaking, higher top speed, or greater economy, better towing etc, most "Chips" will achieve some of these but remember you cannot drive like Michael Schumaker and expect increased economy as well..hope this helps  Stew

Quite simply put, the increased torque you will get from a decent kit will transform the way the car drives, the upside is, with improved torque, you dont have to open the throttle as wide to get the same amount of power as you did pre tuned (very simply put) so with lighter throttle application, you get better MPG. Most of our kits are now adjustable, so you can set your own power increase to suit your driving style

Kingo

  • 5 weeks later...

I've just had a chip fitted to my '11 Rav4 2.2 D4D. My old one, a 3 yr old D4D, same engine, did 46-48 mpg after 50K however this one has only been doing 35mpg and has left me out of pocket and very frustrated.

It's ben tested by the deaership twice and nothing's wrong with it, only the new engine mods have made it much less economical.

I've had a Lindop chip fitted last week and its utterly amazing!!!

It now does 44-45 mpg (that's an increase of 10+mpg!!!)

Its loads more responsve and accelerates like a scalded cat if you want it to, however I've driven it just like normal and the increase in economy is phenomenal. It's now silky smooth and accelerates like a sports car.

I'd just like to clarify that I don't work for Toyota or have any vested interest in them but am merely a very satisfied customer. I also understand that they work a treat in the Hilux diesels.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend that everyone gets a chip, which are apparently simple to fit from Lindop. I can't see any reason not to.

Also, if you are ever after a Toyota, they come extremely highly recommended and have really looked after me. I realise this sounds like blatant advertising but I promise you that it isn't - I'm just a very satisfied customer who wants to tell people how good they are, and to spread the word about the chips which are beyond belief!!!

I understand that they sell these on the website and I can't thank the dealership enough for looking after me and turning my nice new Rav into the most responsive and economical new Rav ever!
