Why Not Chip The 2.2

Hi All

Looking to get another rav soon as the old 03 2 litre diesel is getting a bit old. Many seem to have problems with the T180, how about a good 2.2 with a chip ?? Would that not be a lot more reliable.

....and his was not a T180, BUT HE CHIPPED IT VERY SUCCESSFULLY (LINDOP), and Toyota just chipped his non T180 ENGINE in the bin, and fitted him a nice new engine....not just T180 engine causing problems...

Yes I have a "chipped" 136bhp XT4, unfortunately i have never driven a T180 so have no comparison to make, however SYWY who has a T180 drove mine at a meeting in warrington a couple of years ago and thought it was very close, Kingo reckons the chipped 136 version delivers a conservative 162 bhp, so not quite the 177 that the Std 180 produces, however you can have a spare wheel + the surprise element is worthwhile, my chip has been on 4yrs and is now fitted on my new engine and has honestly caused no problems whatsoever, i would thoroughly reccomend it to anyone  and as BK says, The egr problems are not just on the T180.. hope this helps and if you have any further questions regarding my chip i would be happy to answer  Stew

....and Mike/Dan (?), I trust my reply above was in no way construed as a "don't buy ANY Rav" because of these now spreading over different model engine problems....I would buy another recent T180/SR180 without hesitation, or a 2.2 of lower output and Kingo Chip it, in the certain knowledge that should the engine have the "problem" it will be fixed. Great cars....

Once you have it chipped you won't want to go back.

We had a Lindop chip fitted at the start of June & have recently ran our T180 for 350 miles without the chip kit connected to try and identify what was causing a hesitation/flat spot issue which has since mysteriously disappeared clap.gif.

That aside, I could not wait to get the chip kit back on the motor as the difference really is night and day.
