Hi everyone, A year has passed since we found our dream car. (check out our my various posts on the subject) It is an XT5 in auto 2.0 petrol. We looked at hundreds before findong this car. many thanks to all of you who helped us find and then tweak the vehicle with ipod connection updated maps and override for the on the move controls and new saprk plugs and upgrade lights and mud flaps etc etc etc. The last 6000 miles have been perfect what a car!. The chap we purchased from had kept it in his garage from new in Torquay and only ever took it out on sunny days. He passed away and the car had only 14,000 on it we we took it over. We are moving to Spain and wanted to find a vehicle that would suit and the RAV4 4.3 seemed to fit the bill. We like toys having had a lexus 460sel costing over £70,000 i wondered how we would find the rav4 xt5 . I must say it was not that much of a step down as i thought. Well we are now moving to Spain and have found a replacemment left hand drive version. wow they cost a lot more in spain. anyway the point of this post is that we are leaving next week after the bank holiday and want to find a good home for it. Looking for someone who will love and care and appreciate it and so far we have not had success. Any ideas please reply i would hate to let the a dealer have it as at really is like brand new both inside and out.

Hi Jim,

Can you provide some details:

mileage, colour, interior finish (assume leather), price, general UK location.

Can't help thinking you've left it a bit late if you are disappearing week after next.

Rgds,

Firemac

Unfortunately you are in a situation where you need to sell and buyers tend to want the best deal in this market.

Decide what the car is worth and put in your advertisement that the car is a cherished one, and that you are a forum member and link them to your user ID so they can read about the car's history. Consider paying for an HPI check if the car is worth several thousand pounds and giving it to the new owner.

Try not to overprice the car, as you are unlikely to get a quick sale that way, but do take lots of good pictures.

It is an emotional wrench to sell a car, but never lose sight of that fact that you need to exchange the keys for a hefty wedge of notes.

Looking on the web it would appear tom get a llow mileage one owner form a dealer is £14500. I would have thought that £12500 for a private buyer would be very fair.

AGE ?????????????????? Mate You are only giving half clues here ! Why not pay the small amount and put up a proper ad ?? I mean time is running out ?? 12500 for a petrol Rav is a bit ambitious unless its a very late one..

I have been considering selling My T80 that is fully and I do mean fully loaded and in exceptional condition. 2006 (Late) 47K miles with a new engine Clutch. Injectors. EGR valve . ect ect and I don't expect its worth £12500 and its a Diesel..

Plus the Auto box while Very desirable to some (Me for instance) is not that popular to those who use the car for towing....

I will wait for the right person .

It sound like a stunning and a very desirable car.. But I'm confused. You said You wanted to sell it by next week which is why I offered My opinion and that's all it is an opinion on what a petrol Rav4 is likely to be worth if You need or want to sell it fast. Now it seems there is no rush ?? Your post seemed to say that a Dealer will get it if not sold soon ?? Perhaps I misunderstand ??

Also You seem reluctant to say the Year of the car ?? Surely this is one of the most important things to consider when buying or selling any car ??

Having looked at What car valuations it seems Your car must be a 2009 at the oldest ?? In which case You valuation is very close !!

Toyota RAV4 Crossover 2.0 Vmatic XT-R Auto 4WD 5dr 2009 (09) 20,000 miles

Dealer £15,640

Private £14,355

Part exchange £13,100

Trade £12,650

Cost new £22,415

Mate try Gumtree. Its free to advertise and surprisingly good ! I sold My Wife old car on Gumtree after no calls at all on Autotrader !! Pistonheads is also free to Members if You are a Member of long standing.

The other obvious place is Autotrader Very good coverage but expensive to advertise !! Be flexible as Buyers are few and all want more for Their money than is reasonable..

Plus sides are of course the mileage and condition.... Plus the Auto could be the biggest plus as well if Some one wants only an auto.. I would love a very high spec Auto as My Wife who is disabled struggles with the clutch pedal but the high mileage We are now doing means a diesel is the only choice.

As above. Good Luck With the sale of Your car !!

Another place to sell is eBay classified ads. You don't want to use an auction as nine times out of ten the buyer doesn't show up. With Classified ads, you can make appointments and if the guy doesn't show, then you don't need to pay a relisting fee.

If the potential buyer asks you to remove the Classified Ad before he travels, ask for a £25 deposit to cover the relisting fee and any inconvenience to your weekend.

If you do the maths it must be five years old (bought 1 year ago after 4 years in the English Riviera). Low miles, condition and spec might push it up but auto and petrol are kind of niche interests for 4x4s. Good luck.

Yes eBay is also good but be well prepared for Idiots making ridiculous offers !! I would never sell or try to sell a car on the bay again... But Yes a massive audience and relatively cheap...

Another possibility if you want a quick sale is one of the "we buy any car" outfits. Whilst I have heard some bad reports about WBAC.com, I sold my 57-reg Land Cruiser to National Car Buyer (based in Bournemouth) last year & they gave me a good price over the phone based on my description and answers to their questions. They stuck to the price as well when they came to eyeball & collect it - there are stories of WBAC.com finding all sorts of excuses to reduce their telephone offer once they get you on the hook and they make you bring the car to one of their depots. National come to you.

You won't get tippy-top dollar but they ain't far off what's fair; you will avoid time-wasters, dealers on the make, nuisance sales agencies and you get a quick, secure payment. Worth a phone call I'd have thought.

Well, here goes then,I am man enough to accept that everyone may not interpret your post as I did,but your comments seemed to me derogatory about Davidsom's motor whilst praising your own,and GLWTS does not generally mean Good Luck With That Sale, hence my post as it could be construed as referring to his car.

Hope that answers your question to your satisfaction,Charlie

I have never, ever heard it used in that contact. Apparently, 6 other people on the internet have though.

I've always read as Good Luck With The Sale, and it usually only appears in threads where something appears for sale.

My post derogatory against His car ?? Not at all !! Just talking points about the car that's all and being realistic about values ...

Praising My own car ? Well if You consider Me saying I don't think its worth £12500 or anywhere near that then I question the definition of praise... My car is mint !! It is a T180 which I believe is the range topper. It is also a 56 plate and I reckon its worth closer to 10K than 12.5K.

The point I was trying to make without giving offence was that 12.5K for a petrol car is very ambitious unless the car is a very late one..

I went to What car Free valuation website and the first Auto petrol it listed was a 2009 Hence My retreat and somewhat apologetic post containing the valuation for the 2009 car !!

I failed to spot that the car is or seems to be a 56 plate car as pointed out by the Fella who went to specsavers and saw it in the OPs sig........

Now We have to believe the car is a 56 plate so late 2006 or early 2007 so valuation ?? Well You tell Me cos I aint getting into any more agg by giving an honest opinion whether it helps or not........

GLWTS.... Well the only thing I've ever thought that the acronym means is Good Luck With the The Sale.

Whatever else it means I haven't a clue genuinely I don't !!
