4.3 Rear Lights

I'm on holiday in France with our 2007 XTR D4D.

The rear lights are no longer working although the front lights, brakes and indicators are all OK.

Before the stress of going to a french Toyota agent, is there something simple I can check?

Which fuse is it?

Panicking in Normandy,

Jon

Can't get at my manual just now Jon but haven't you got your handbook with you?

Has this motor got a towbar by any chance?

Thanks anchorman for taking the trouble to reply,I was getting a bit worried. the problem is now solved. The front sidelights were also not working but I had mistaken the dipped headlights for them. It was a fuse but took a bit of finding as it was located under the glovebox and completely upside down. What's more the fuse list which I eventually found at the back of the handbook is not exactly the same as the list on the cover of the fusebox. The fusebox list is correct. What caused it to blow is anyone's guess... we do have a towbar and are towing a caravan but have never had a problem in the previous 2 years. However during this holiday we have had another Rav4 'experience' that I will describe in another post.

Hi Jon,

I know from experience that this is a horrible experience! IMHO Anchorman's comment is very pertinent - in my case the indicators blew fuses. It turned out to be the wiring on the towbar. The insulation had worn through where it had not been properly fixed by the dealer ( NOT Toyota ). I have always fitted my own towbars since and never had any other problems. Don't know what the weather is like in Normandy, but here with the rain we have had it could also be water ingress in the socket. I now fill the back of mine with vaseline when I fit them!

Good luck - don't let it spoil your holiday

Best regards

Chris

Thanks for your reply Chris.

It has rained or drizzled all day here.Tomorrow shall remove the plug cover and check all the wiring.

I just bought a replacement 10 amp fuse from Toyota Lisieux...1.10 Euros!
