Hi, A quick question, I’m about to buy a 2005 Rav4 XTR diesel 3 door and was wondering whether it has a cam belt or cam chain (so I can check out the service history)

No belt!

Now you are confused!!!

I promise the 2 litre D4D in a 3 door 2005 model has a belt. You will find changing instructions pinned.
