I finally got around to replacing the stock toyota stereo in the car and was aware that there would be some gaps on the side due to the difference in size of the stock stereo and the JVC one. I bought the Connects2 adapter kit to cover this and sure enough the gaps on the left and right have dissappeared. The problem is that the Connects2 kit says use the manufacturers mounting brackets on the stereo and then apply their space fillers on the side. That all worked fine but with the JVC stereo mounted and the trim put back it sticks out of the dash almost an inch rather than being flush like the stock one.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and did they live with it or find a clever way out? I will get some photos tonight and post in the morning.

So the first photo shows how much the new unit sticks out

Below is a photo showing the mounting with the stock kit of the Toyota Standard Unit

Finally a top view showing how the side fillers attach on top of the side mounting bracket.

Basically I just want to get the Unit flush with the dash and at the same time keep the fillers on the side. I have thought of taking the standard mounting kit off and using the cage that comes with the jvc unit but then I can't attach the space fillers on the side.
