Many thanks to Mr Toyota and special thanks to the Staff at Steven Eagell in Aylesbury.

I have got my RAV 4 T180 back this evening fitted with a brand new engine original had done 70K miles.

They have had it for 7 working days and supplied me and the wife with a little Aygo (nice little motor!).

I must admit its nice to get the Rav back though and i have been out this evening to give it a gentle run out.

It is all nice and tight like when it was new - i decided to take advice from forum members and had the clutch replaced (£299 inc vat)whilst it was all in bits.

Looks like i will have to keep the car now as its only got a low mileage! :yahoo:

Good luck to all the other members in pusuit of a new engine TGB are really worth there weight in gold.

If you live near Aylesbury then pop in to Steven Eagell.

Hi Not up to speed too much with this engine renewal stuff, never been too concerned as mine has done 23k ish,but gettin a bit concerned of late after last long journey (1200 miles in 3 days)ref oil consumption near 0.80 ltr. if i read it correctly Anchorman sez there is a relationship between oil consumption & head gasket failure due to carbon build up stuff etc etc,the question is what was your consumption around failure time or has it been a steady amount.need to know coz its playing on my mind for the long term with my Rav!

To Wee Charlie - the gearbox feels very slick with the new clutch, i did however have the old selector cables renewed previously as they have modified ones to eradicate the "notchy" gearchange that was always an issue that Toyota recognised. Considring this a 4WD vehicle it is a smooth as a stick in syrup!

To XR650 - My T180 never suffered with the reported high oil consumption, mine was changed because it kept spewing coolant over the engine, i think they call it pressureising through the expansion tank. In a nut Shell it was head gasket problems which is also another recognised symptom of the previous engine. Just go to your dealer and tell them of the problems and advise them you are aware of the warranty replacement scheme for the old engine.

Mark.

If yours is using oil, go in and see them - it qualifies for a new engine.

Check if you have the latest gear change bracket. If you look where the cables are anchored on the gearbox, the 3 bolts in the bracket should have rubber bushes. If not, get a new bracket off kingo. It will be smoother still

Any chance of a diagram or a pic so I'm sure what I'm looking at ?? Thanks !

If you get somebody to wriggle the gear lever and then watch the bracket, if it moves it is the new one. If not it is bolted direct (the new one has robber mountings to improve the feel) so take a closer look (take a bolt out to be sure).

You might end up taking the air filter box off to get at it well enough to change.
