Replaced brake cultch fluid £10

New pollen, air, oil filter. £26

3.1 L 15w-40 Halfords oil £20

False economy there......IQ's should be using 0w-20 or 5w-30 oil

If you value your engine and wish to keep fuel economy you should not use 15w-40 oil

it was 5w-30 oil I put in. Just testing to see if the IQ club are awake

Mr Ben

MrB, where did you get the filters from?

I am sure I read somewhere that the Toyota pollen filter costs between £20 and £30 on its own, and heaven knows what they want for air and oil filters!

You can't really risk using "pattern" bits and pieces for engine parts even though your car may be over three years old and out of warranty, although I don't think any IQs are that old yet.

Did your iQ not require to go in for the recent brake recall & already have the Fluid changed?

Mr Ben

I think that you are back-pedalling just a bit too strongly there Mr Ben!

Apart from wasting the time of the forum members who took the trouble to reply to your post and offer good advice, what was the point of your original post?

Please refrain from being untruthful on this forum as it helps nobody........Please do not expect any respect or meaningful answers if you do not treat others with respect

Its not that I was back-pedalling when the replys where made about the oil. I realised I put the wrong number type "just made a bit of fun about it thats all".

As for the question about the filters. They are German made and I can say there is no difference between them and toyota ones that I can see, a toyota pollen filter is £60, oil filter £18 and a Air filter I think aboout £35 or more.

3 filters for £26 thats what it should be!

thats my opinion

Why Buy Mahle Filters?

Mahle Filters is a German Filter Manufacturer and a leading name in Filter Technology.

As testament to their high standards, many vehicles (e.g. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche) left the production line with Mahle Filters fitted as Original Equipment.

You still have not answered the question "Where did you get the filters?"......An answer may help other forum users

Surely not from Halfords when you bought the 15w-40 oil!

Typical Modern youth/Boy racers.

Spend loads on Sticky back plastic look alike carbon, shiny wheels/low tyres, V8 badges & it is all show, no go.

then too tight to buy quality parts/consumables that help actually keep a vehicle working.

old fuddy duddy.

Huh ... sorry George ... whilst taking a sip of a nutritious beverage ... .... búrp ..... sooooohh .. you said .. huh .. wait ... what???

Don't get it... ha ha ;)

Peter

But seriously:

Mr Ben has a point here... why buy originals when a copy is just as good or even better...

For things on my car that are not in the warranty and not in the checkup's .. I go to my Smart-Car-Specialist... He does those things and by far way cheaper then the original dealer..

Talking about oil-change.. On the Smart (my other car you know) oil is an even bigger issue!!!!... In the Smart it's

Full Synt 5w/30
... fully synthetic..

And nothing else..

Out of interest what would the hit on resale be with it not having a full Toyota service history?

Keep a IQ for 5 or 6 years and resale it not having service history after 3 years means nothing. a 6 year old IQ history or not is not relevent.

Hopefully your IQ will last for 6 years......(Even if you do use the incorrect grade of oil and cut corners on servicing) :D ;)

Why are you saying I used the incorrect oil I said in my post that I put the wrong number down I did not use the incorrect oil. As for cutting corners on service this is also not true the filters I used are just as good as Toyota ones unless you have seen both filters to compare them then I find your opinion unjust.

Any important part that is needed for an IQ then I would use the Toyota parts. The Pollen and Air filter is only a peace of paper at the end of the day.

Sorry but the prices you have given are wrong, an iQ2 1.0 model would be

O/F 8.43

A/F 15.17

Pollen 30.47

The above are retail and would be discounted from me

I've always fitted "genuine" oil and air filters to all the cars I've owned but to me the pollen/cabin filter is less critical, only my last three cars have had one fitted anyway.

I buy my pollen/cabin filters from here http://www.puravent.co.uk/filters/index.php . £30 is really extracting the urine in my opinion. As they don't seem to list the iQ then me supplying the link is a bit superfluous to the thread!

Aberdeen Toyota gave me a price of £60 for pollen filter, what was to much. Thanks for stating the price that you have given.

I am not sure if parts is the same as service charge as one toyota workshop can be more or less than a other toyota workshop for a service?

You were quite specific in your original statement of using Halfords oil

When you post a statement on a public forum you will get various replies expressing opinions.

My opinion of you cutting corners is perfectly justified as IN MY OPINION to use any other oil or air filter than Toyota original could have detrimental effects on your car.

Others on here have advised against using aftermarket patterned parts.......Ignore that advice at your peril!

Your statement that the pollen and air filters are "only a PIECE of paper" is so far from the truth.......Aftermarket patterned filter may be just that...but manufacturers originals are far superior

In my opinion your "cutting corners" is false economy as I originally stated

I have heard and seen and got the book/ T Shirt on the genuine V Pattern parts story, having worked in the job for over 35 years

One thing for sure is the pattern parts are rarely better than genuine, and as for that overused and often misrepresented phrase of "OE manufacturer" it should be banned!

Just because a factory makes a pattern part for the manufacturer, it DOES NOT mean it is the same or indeed, anything like the quality of the manufacturer specification

I ALWAYS advise fitting genuine, especially on engine critical parts like an oil filter, it is simply just not worth the hassle if anything did go wrong in the future. If you do your own servicing, then always keep receipts, dates times etc and if you do need to make a claim in the future, you have a much better chance of getting something out of Toyota, if you cannot prove your car has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturers specification, then you MIGHT lose out on aspects of your warranty

I was told that a pollen filter would cost £100 at my iQ's second service. I have now ordered a new iQ and am just waiting for it so did not go ahead with the pollen filter for now, however there seems to be quite a variation in prices
