1997 Camry has fast idle at startup (1900 rpm). Takes too long before computer slows the idle. I have to wait a few minutes before driving car, I dont like to shift into gear at that idle speed. Any help? TIA

Its perfectly normal for a car to start from cold at this idle. Our camry did it, my Avensis does, nearly every car with fuel injection/computer controlled will - its to enable the engine to get upto full operating temperature as quickly as possible - there is no harm in starting to drive it at these revs. It's just a bit like an older car when the choke is on.1997 Camry has fast idle at startup (1900 rpm). My 97 is the same way, but with the eletronic trany on it, it still shifts into gear smoothly.
