Radio And Cd Have Died

Just on my way to Mr T to have the brakes checked and the radio wouldn't come on. The display works, the channels change, it says audio off when I switch it on or off. The outside temp readings are still there as are the av. fuel consumption etc., etc,.

I can still control everything from the steering wheel controls but no sound. Had the unit out earlier today but nothing obvious - except a rather worrying 'electrical' smell if you know what I mean. Mr T couldn't come up with an explanation and said take it to a car audio specialist. Any ideas please? And if it is a gonner then what might be the options? Thanks.

If everything works apart from the sound then it could be the output transistors (amplifier)but this tends to happen when extra Speakers are fitted that load the system up too much. You could try eBay for a replacement unit as I've seen many for sale for around £60 - £80.
