Vw G12 Plus Plus Coolant.

Dare I mention VW on this learned forum?

There has been a lot of issues with the 2AD diesel engine and the head gasket failures. Some people think it could be down to Toyota's pink coolant that could be reacting to the metal gasket and causing failure.

Has anyone got any views on using VW G12 Plus Plus (++) pink/purple coolant? I'm wonder if this would be a better alternative, as I've got a Polo TDi with 206k on the clock and I've never had any problems (As I touch wood) with gasket failure. I'll be changing mine tomorrow as a 50/50 with lovely soft Welsh de-ionized aqua!

Hi mate,my old passat had the blue version of VW antifreeze and was never renewed for 15 years.they brought out a reddish version that could not be mixed with the blue.they then brought out another one which i forget the colour off

that would mix with with either the blue or red.the car was a recall after i had it about 6/7 years for a mod to heater rad hoses cos some women in USA got scalded in a accident and sued VW.the mod was a one way valve to stop coolant discharging into the cabin or something like that.they only lost a small mount of antifreeze doing the mod but i syphoned out the expansion tank and added neat antifreeze for that extra protection.this was the only time i ever had to added any antifreeze to the car when i had it and for all i know it could still be running around with the majority of the original coolant in it. there is no reason why you cant use VW antifreeze that i can think off. There must be many toyota that are servicd at other garages that are running on non toyota longlife antifreeze.

Eh up my mate,

I've been on the Audi/VW forums and I can't seem to find any posts where the headgaskets have failed due to the coolant that VW use. I wonder what the difference (If any) is between the VW G12 plus plus is and Toyota's own pink stuff. I could be that Toyota are using a gasket that just doesn't like the pink Mr t's stuff. But I'm sure that Toyota must have done lots of tests with this. But still we have the problems that some think could be down to the coolant.

As you said there must be a lot of Mr T's cars out there running on none OEM coolant. I wonder if they have headgasket failure as much. I know this is just a small part of the problem with the fails on the 2AD (And other oil burners) due to the EGR valve and carbon build up on the pistons and rings but the coolant choice could play a small part to.

They just stopped making it... the red was replaced by the pink.

I think the green was for all alloy engines...

Fuchs do a decent pre mixed cooland for bi-metalic engines. Opie Oils sell it, and Toc members get a discount :D

Fuch's and Silkolene make some great stuff tbh. Both the same company but the Fuch's brands are cheaper than the Silkolen but exactly the same. markeing eh!:thumbsup:
