Rattle From Gearbox

Hi, I've noticed a rattle from around the gearbox from my 09 Yaris Luna, just where the counter weight is on the gear linkage. When the car is idle I can hear the rattle, but when the clutch is pressed the rattle goes also if I move the counter weight on the gearbox from side to side it stops...any idea what it could be. A friend reckons it could be a bearing gone in the clutch?

Sounds like a thrust bearing on the clutch to me...

That's what my mate said, surely it should be gone so soon approx 20k kms on it? My clutch is not covered under the warranty so is the bearing covered, if not roughly how much would it cost?

No the clutch plate wont be covered under the warranty as its a "Wear and tear" item unless there is a manufacturing fault with it. There was a post on here the other week back wherby a guys mum had gone through 2 clutches in something like 20k! They sais that it was her driving style or resting the foot on the clutch. But I've no idea what happened on that one. Partking is the person on here who you want to get a good price off...

I only have the car 3 months, and bought it fro a Toyota dealership. I rang them today and I'm booked in for 2pm tomorrow to access the issue. So if its the bearing I should be covered as its not a wear part.

Thanks for your help, I'm not great mechanicaly but just need a little insight into what I'm up against when I do face them.

I'll update this as soon as I get back from them.

Sorry about the delay in getting back on here, The dealer is replacing the clutch on Wednesday as part of the warranty ( I have found out that the clutch was covered under the warranty) so hopefully it will be sorted once and for all. :-)
