I have managed to sort out my 05 d4d avensis egr problem, thanks to this site.

I am very grateful to all of you for your pics, topics and informative posts.

I bought my avensis in June this year and 10 miles later the engine management

light came on. My local mechanic told me it was the code for an egr problem.

So after finding this site, I had a go at trying to clean the egr valve. It

didn't seem to do the trick, so I took it to my mechanic who also had a go at

cleaning it. This didn't help either, so he fitted a blanking plate. I have to

say that I wasn't very happy with the performance of the car or the mpg for a

long time and because the engine management light was still on, I thought that

I should have another go at cleaning the egr valve. I bought a new egr gasket

and a can of carb cleaner and spent an hour on saturday giving it a good scrub.

I thought the air filter looked a bit dirty so I replaced it with a new one and

gave the 2 sensors in the air filter housing and bit of a clean with a cotton

bud too. I disconnected the negative lead on the Battery for a minute then put

everything back together. Last night I filled the car with city diesel and a can

of good engine and injector cleaner and then give it a good drive around our

local dual carriageways. The engine management light is still off, the mpg has

almost doubled and the car driving beautifully.

I have researched a few things using this site and have been able to change the

filters and sort out the egr problem, all thanks to you. You have definitely

saved me a small fortune.

Thank you.

Thanks, I had a look, thats very interesting.

I will keep an eye on the oil level and keep

this in mind. The previous owner had the car

serviced by toyota for the first 2 or 3 years

but then he used another mechanic. It might

be worth a punt if I find any more related

problems. Thanks again.
