2000 Yaris 1.0 Gls Running Lumpy!

Hi all,

I bought a 2000 Yaris 1.0 GLS for my younger brother about a year ago, but recently he's had problems with it.

It broke down about a month ago, engine just cut out and the AA man came and diagnosed it with a faulty crankshaft sensor.

I replaced that, then still the same problem.

It struggles to start from cold, and will cut out.

After a few tries at turning the key it starts but when it gets warm and you rev it, it still feels lumpy, as if there isnt enough fuel getting into the engine.

It just doesnt feel smooth.

Then when you drive it, it feels ok until you bury the throttle.... then it kind of jerks and the power drops, but driving it at low revs its ok.

So then I changed all spark plugs and the throttle body. Still no joy!!

Does anybody have any ideas? Or is there a common fault with these cars?

Thanks.

Welcome Naveed.

Could be anything from a failed coil pack (rare but it does happen) to a split engine breather pipe (easy to check). Or a blocked air filer.

Any warning lights on?

Most likely is a failed coil pack.. Check each plug for signs of unburnt fuel.

Hi again,

I checked the plugs....there are no signs of unburnt fuel and all seem to sparking well.

The breather pipe seems ok aswell.

MAF sensor is a possibility!!!

The engine light is on.....last diagnostic said crankshaft sensor.

Is it worth having another diagnostic done?

Thanks.

You need to have the fault codes read. A garage should give you a printout. There is more than one code which indicates a faulty crank sensor. Post the codes for more help.

Second thoughts! get the garage to clear the codes then see which ones come back. This will avoid any red herrings.
