Hi From New Zealand. Thanks for letting me become a member of this great site.

I have recently bought an LN130 Hilux Surf 2.4 EFI Turbo Diesel. I dragged it out from under some trees and gave it some TLC. Stripped the interior and cleaned out the dog kennel!! new Pajero 15inch wheels and tyres, cut and polishh and repaired a heap of electrics including all the electric windows and tailgate plus a heap of other little bits and pieces.. Now it drives like a respectable vehicle and I love it but Mannnnn does it use some diesel about 350 to 400kms per tankfull.( 65ltrs)

(14 Gallons per 217 miles) in UK terms Any one got any ideas as to why its so hungry.

No fuel leaks from the pump or anywhere else.. Intact tract perfectly clear with new filter element, No excessive smoke, Starts well from cold but every now and then starts with a lazy cylinder which comes right in about 3 seconds,Tyre pressures correct, not stuck in 4 wheel drive (lol) Any Ideas anyone

I had a 2.4td and was a bit thirsty 25mpg and probably less just around town.

It`ll do no harm to run some cleaner through it and change the fuel filter but the injectors are probably past their peak effieciency/performance

Thanks Dave

I've been doing screeds and screeds of reading about this subject on as many forums that I can, I will change the fuel filter and run some diesel treatment and cleaner through it..the product I will use is called "Promar" not sure if you've heard of it. I agree that the injectors could be a little tired however the engine was rebuilt about 18000miles ago but I don't know if the injectors were done.

It appears that these EFI engines of this era can over the years get out of phase with electronics and mechanical syncing. Everything has to be spot on from the intake end to the exhaust, and every aspect of the controlling electronics.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers ...Tim
