Hi,

I'm currently looking at getting a 5th gen Celica and wanted to check their reliability and running costs. So far I've only heard good things but I know they're getting on a bit.

Also, what kind of things should I look for when viewing a gen 5 Celica?

Cheers

Pete

The Generation 5 Celica is a beautiful car.... almost as beautiful as my 87 :D but the thing you should look for is that it runs without any leaks... mileage doesnt really matter with these cars as long as you stay under 150k. My 87 GT has 188k and still runs great. The GTS is nice, but go for the GT if you just want a tool-around car. But to ***** in the cornflakes of the "celicas are awesome with no flaws" people, the automatic transmissions used on these Celicas are not very strong and can NOT be jerked around too much. Your best bet would be to go with a manual transmission. The electronics in these cars are not known to go out but if you see one with electrical problems, RUN. Chances are that they have water damage when electrical problems arise. Check to make sure that the hideaway headlights raise properly. If all these check out and the car is within a reasonable price range, go for it. Good luck.
