Parking Sensor Fault

Hello i have a 2005 Avensis 2.0 diesel which the parking sensors have developed a fault. When in reverse the sensor emits a continuous beep with short breaks. i have located the sensor control box which is a Toyota branded Cobra unit 4M0168T1A.

I have tried disconnecting each sensor without success but the problem also exists with all sensors disconnected just power and buzzer connected. I have checked the sensors for any debris and they are clean. Apart from my suspicion of a failed control unit is there any other possible cause for this. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

I fit parking sensors for a living and theres only two things that go wrong with them on cars as "optional extras" the sensors them selves or the unit. To test the sensors i do exactly what you have done (disconnect all sensors and try one at a time. Obviously turning ignition off before you disconnect/connect sensors or plugs). but if its beeping when no sensors are connected then i would say the main control box has given up :(

hi,

my 2005 avensis has also developed a parking sensor fault. the manifestation is the same: when shifting to reverse, first there is that initial beep that indicates that the system is active, and then a long continuous beep with short pauses. i was unable to check what's the problem with the system since it has been raining.

however i was wondering, is there a way to get to the sensors without removing the rear bumper (for example underneath the car???)

also, could you tell me where exactly is the sensor control box located, so i won't have to remove every piece of cloth in the trunk (i assume it is located somewhere in the trunk?!?!?)

thanks,

vlado

not sure about access to the sensors, but for the minute you only need to access the control module, im not sure where the module would be located on the avensis as i fit aftermarket sensors however i would presume if you have a fuse box in your boot/trunk it should be in close vacinity

Hello Avakak,

how do you solve your problem with parking sensors? I have the same problem on my Toyota , after disconnection all detection sensors module 4M0168T1A continue with beep sound :(

I try to found front parking module, but I don't know where is it. I hope that will be there same module and I will change it, because front sensors I never use.

I afraid that problem is simple because control module is Made in Italy not in Japan :)

Im sorry for my english Im in Pilsen / Czech republick

I have a Toyota Prado (120) with exactly the same symptoms, has anyone been able to fix it?

I also have this issue. Found the unit/module in the boot. When in reverse I get a constant beep with no breaks to alert me to an object getting closer. I had to remove the cable that was originally connected as it was too annoying.

Does anyone know if that's an easy fix? As in, replace the module? Or is it a removal of number job?
