my toyota manual recommend semi-synthectic 5w30, what is the difference between semi-synthectic and fully synthectic oil 5w30, is the fully synthectic oil thicker or does it take that bit longer to get around the engine from cold start as i know the semi gets to all parts fast from cold start , can anyone tell me what exactly is the difference

Fully synthetic is considered the dog's <the spuds of lurrrrvve>s - but some engines can't tolerate it and should stick with mineral or semi.

(EDIT: I've been censored, but you can get the gist I think :) )

Mineral oil usually must reach a certain temperature to offer optimum protection, whereas fully synthetic oil made by a reputable manufacturer will usually offer optimum protection from the moment it is circulating.

£40 a gallon may seem expensive now but your fuel bills will be lower and engine repair bills will be coming in a lot less often.

Using cheaper oil will burn up more fuel keeping it circulating as it is usually a heavier grade, and as it offers less protection your engine will wear quicker.

The best oil on the market is currently the Mobil 1 0w 40 grade fully synthetic, when it was first developed Mobil ran a brand new BMW on the rolling road for 1, 000, 000 miles using the Mobil 1 oil with oil changes and services at the usual intervals, then stripped the engine down and it was still as brand new
