Money On Components Or Sub?

Hi, I've just got an 05 corolla t-sport, and as its the first decent car I've ever owned, I want to upgrade the sounds, with a rough budget of £500 with fitting.I've trawled the net and am drowning in info.

Basically, I'm looking at keeping the factory HU, and replacing just the front Speakers with 6.5" components. But should I spend my budget on just these, or split my budget between lower quality comps, a sub and amp?

Would the quality of more expensive components from Focal, make up for the lack of a sub? Should I amp the comps anyway?

Confused!

Thanks

Spud

Most high end Speakers will actually give you a little less bass than the factory Speakers, since they are intended to be used with a sub.

Driven by the headunit you won't get your money's worth out of a set of £500 components. Get some £80ish ones; make sure you get silk dome tweeters, then spend the rest on some amps and bass.

A second hand amp or two might help stretch the budget. Don't bother amplifying the rears.

Thanks for your reply joylove, it's really appreciated.

After searching I've short listed these Speakers - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/foc-ps165-focal-performance-ps165.html

This sub- http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-sbg-844br.html

And this amp- http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-in-phase-ipx1004_p-23990.htm

I guess I need to find a car audio place other than Halfords to talk to, but any advice from these forums would be great.

Thanks

Spud

That would definitely be a good starter system. I'd also recommend registering on talkaudio and discussing your system there. Also browse their Classifieds section. Lots of bargains to be had.
