Am Thinking Of Getting Rid

My old girl is getting on a little now and to be honest i am getting a little bored with her, as a mechanic by trade i relish something to do at the weekend but nothing ever goes wrong with her, in the 5 years since new, apart from tyres, oil and filters i've changed one bulb in the high level brake light and cleaned the EGR every 10k. That is it.

You might say thats great, i would love a car that reliable, but at the moment she's also sat on the drive doing nothing whilst i'm waiting to start my new job. Even then i am going to get a van with the job so i cant really justify keeping her any more.

She has served me faultlessly from new, dragging me and my family to and from germany when i was working for HM's government of the day and has 65k on her.

Now unless i'm off to see the old man in mansfield the most she does is about 5 miles a day school run and a shopping trip to tesco 1/4 of a mile away.

And dont laugh too much but am seriously thinking of getting a mg zr vvc,(dont scream head gasket i know), i was gonna get another mk2 mr2 but it's impractical, was gonna get a celica vvtli but the oil consumption issue worries me(and standard they look daft because they sit too high). At least with the mg loads are scrapped daily so there is no shortage of spares around and i will always have something to do at the weekend.

So what do you think she's worth with no service history?

Looking at autotrader they range from 4 grand to 7 obviously the ones with service history are the top end but 4 grand ones have usually got over 100k on em.

Any thoughts....or am i just going stir crazy in these 4 walls waiting to start work.

According to parkers an 07 T3X 2.2 diesel with 50k on it is worth around 6k as a private good sale. I'd say you're probably a bit under that as yours has a bit more miles, but I don't know what spec yours is, or if it's a 57.

I've never had any problem selling a car without properly documented service history, but you need to sell the fact you're a mechanic etc to the buyer. However as yours is the cylinder head muncher people might demand the history so they can keep up the 7 year warranty from mr t. Surely it should make around 5k at auction, which would give you maybe four and a half?

Hope this helps:)

Keep your good reliable car to keep the family happy and buy yourself a project to (1) keep you happy and (2) make a bit of money when you sell it (if you sell it - don't tell the misses there's an 'if').

All the fun, none of the pressure.
