Come on Chelsea, the nations behind you ( not  )

Can they do it ?, will Chelsea triumph in the face of adversity ? bearing in mind they have 4 first choice players missing due to suspension and are playing a better team in their own back yard, something is telling me that they just might pull off the impossible and go and win the Uefa Champions League ..............But then again :lol:

This really is a hard one for Chelsea, but if they pull it off like they did against Barca DiMatteo deserves to be Manager next season.I doubt whether Jose or Pep will want to come next season so the search for a new Manager gets a little harder.

We will have to wait and see if he can inspire the lads to one more victory as i believe that if he fails he'll have little chance of retaining the managers position full time, that said whats the betting that Roman already has someone else lined up, i kind of came to that conclusion when it was obvious that Robbie was placing all his eggs in the Champions League basket, especially in the last 3 Prem games when he rested the majority of first choice players in favour of our second string resulting in two notable defeats, one at home to Newcastle and a heavy defeat away to Liverpool, personally i felt that our strongest route to re-qualify for next seasons Champions League was always going to be through the prem, bearing in mind that we have 4 of our best players missing for the final because of suspension and may well be without a recognised center half if Cahill and Luiz fail to recover from their hamstring injuries, so Robbie has taken a massive gamble there, if he wins he puts himself in, you would have thought a strong position, if if he fails, well you know the answer :bye: .

By the way glad to see you are supporting the team from these shores Kingo, a massive thumbs up mate :cheers:

Unless its Jose, then i'm not interested, but yes you would have thought that Robbie has earned the right to have the job permanently, but in the world of Chelsea anything is possible, there are so many people behind the scenes that have the ear of Abramovic, advisers and the like that you just can't judge what he will decide, would it hurt to give Robbie the job on a one year 'lets see how it go's' contract, you wouldn't have thought so, but having said that i think Romans real target is and always has been Pep Guardiola , the club will probably give it one last go to try and tempt him out of his sabbatical, but if they can't then they will try and strike a gentleman's agreement with him on the basis that he joins us in a years time, if that was likely to be the case then it would put the club in a very tricky situation should they give the job to Robbie for another year, only for him to be successful again, they would surely have egg on their faces if they were to then sack him and bring in Guardiola .

So on that basis i think Robbie probably won't get the Job, and the club will probably bring in someone like Capello on a one year contract with the understanding that it is strictly for one year.

At the end of the day its anyones guess, lets wait and see  .

I think like most Robbie has done a good job with what he had in a short space of time, but a club like Chelsea need Champions league football, and they are not going to risk Robbie on a one year contract and possibly risk not being in it the year after for when some big guns would come in. I don't know who it will be but I think I know who it wont

Football is all about the money these days as you have heard me say many a time, and you need a proven leader. But you know more than most, the Russian says who comes and goes, who will want to work under those conditions? Again it will be down to money

Cappello is not a bad bet. Forget the England job he is a bit like Jose in that every league club he has managed, he has always delivered the goods. In saying that I would love AVB to be the next manager at my club LFC, I still think the lad was not given enough time at CFC.

You may be right Clare, in that he wasn't given enough time, but if he gets and handles the Liverpool job in the same manner in which he did at Chelsea, then expect things to go downhill fast, managing a football team is not just about tactics, first and foremost its about man management, get that bit right and you'll have your players running through brick walls for you, and if you are tactically astute into the bargain then you may just have a winning formula, at Chelsea AVB had neither, he never spoke to the players on a personal level, and his tactics were shocking.

But i still can't get my head around how he managed to sweep the board domestically and in Europe winning the Europa League, you have to have something about you to achieve all he did at Porto, i watched the Europa League Final on the box, , Porto had good shape, pressed high up the pitch and were disciplined throughout, they were a real tough nut to crack. the system AVB employed in that game was a far cry from the Kamikaze type tactics he employed at Chelsea, so lets wait and see, if he does rock up at Liverpool, who knows he may just turn your fortunes around, but i wouldn't place your mortgage on it lol.

Lol this ones worth showing as well, with the sort of money at Roman's disposal you'd have thought that he could afford some decent bum cream for that itch

I doubt very few people knew this, but in 1954/55 Chelsea were the first ever English team to qualify for the inaugural European Champions Cup to be staged the following season, and indeed were drawn to play against the Swedish champions Djurgardens , but were persuaded to withdraw from the competition by the Football League and the FA " many of whose leading members were opposed to the idea and felt that primacy should be given to domestic competitions, so the club were persuaded to withdraw. "

"

Real Madrid dominated the first five competitions, with the team led by Ferenc Puskás, Alfredo Di Stéfano, Gento and José Santamaría winning each of the first five competitions relatively comfortably.

While this was the case, several other clubs did offer some resistance during the late 1950s, notably from Stade de Reims of France, who reached two finals and several Italian clubs such asA.C. Milan and Fiorentina. Hibernian were the first UK club to play the European Cup, reaching the semi-finals of the inaugural tournament in 1955. The English league winners, Chelsea, were denied entry by the Football League's secretary Alan Hardaker, who believed it was in the best interests of English football and football in general for them not to enter.[2] In 1958 a team from London, The London Select XI reached the final of the first Fairs Cup, a competition that began in 1955, took 3 years to complete. They were the first English club to compete in any European Cup Final, losing to Barcelona 6-0 in Spain after a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge. Such players as Bobby Robson and Danny Blanchflower featured in the event.

This era culminated in the famous 1960 European Cup Final, at Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland, where Real Madrid obliterated Eintracht Frankfurt of the then West Germany 7–3 in front of BBC and other Eurovision television cameras and a crowd of over 135,000 — still the largest attendance for a European Cup or Champions League final."
