I have a 55 plate Land crusier that I pull a caravan with. It is struggles to pull the van on hills, changing gear constantly and I was wondering if if can be 'chipped' to pull a caravan more efficiently?

Yes it can, it should get you 20% more torque with ease, PM me for more details
