Hello, first thing to do is disconnect the Battery neg lead for a while 15 mins should do it this may clear the fault, if not ask a local garage to connect an OBD code reader to see what fault code is coming up. Sometimes your fault can be caused by the EGR valve strangely enough and that can be rectified easily by removing and cleaning it out, the garage will know if you don't fancy doing it.

Let us know how you get on, regards

Pete.

Pesky EGR valve, pain in the bum. Wish I could just remove it and be done with it.

Blank it off like I have done, then get an android phone with the Torque EOBD app and a bluetooth EOBD adaptor, £15 from eBay.

This app gives you live engine data logs, can read and turn off EML's give live freeze frame data AND best of all it can automatically erase any live or pending codes as you drive so you never see any warning lights come on,, it gives you a verbal warning when codes are detected and then clears them.

It can give you a map view off the route you have given then display the speed you have travelled, coolant temp and throttle position of when any fault codes happened, great bit of kit all for £18 and of course an Android phone.

Once the egr valve has been blanked off the MPG gets better, I never see less than 48 around town and have reached an incredible 74.6mpg on a 37 mile motorway trip

edit, I would guess that if it was an EGR valve fault P0400 etc then I would expect it also to throw up an orange EML as well
