Hi everybody, does anybody know if Toyota Oil Filler Caps are generic across most Toyota models or does each have it's own design?

I've always done my basic maintenance myself (a woman driver non the less haha )..first time I let new boyfriend check oil he has only gone and left the cap off the oil filler! One RAC call out later when engine warning light came on a few miles away from home, very lucky not to have lost too much oil or sucked in too much gunge..got a temp repair (flexible Fiat cap banged in with mallet)..but no luck finding an Avensis cap locally..

My car is a 2000 Avensis 1.8 petrol.

Before I go down to local Halfords, my last resort as the staff in there are very unhelpful and most are about 15 years old on a Saturday..does anybody know if I should just order an Avensis one online, or is there such a thing as a generic Toyota oil cap, as can get an MR2/ Corrolla/Yaris one easily enough locally. Wanted to pick one up locally today as can't go far till I get it sorted.

Thanks for any advice!

Lea

Generally oil filler caps from the Toyota range fit other engines.

Why don't you just make him go and buy one locally and if it don't fit then stuff on him and his wasted money.

If the replacement flex I cap I'd a good tight fit then this should suffice until you get a genuine replacement.

You may need to jet wash your engine down after and you may get a hot burning oli smell for the time being as well due to the excess oil leaked out of the engine.
