Speed Limit Signs.

Yesterday I was tailgated by a lorry driver who kept flashing his lights at me because I stuck to the speed limit in a 40 zone on a duel carriageway. As soon as I passed the de-restriction sign ( national speed limit applies ) I increased my speed. He immmediately passed me gesticulated to me (V) and then cut immediately infront of me, causing me to swerve and brake to avoid hitting him.

I would remind those drivers ( WHO DO NOT KNOW THE REGULATIONS ) that the speed limit applies through the entire length of the restricted zone, not when you can see the end of the restricted zone.

In my younger days (long time ago) if i got tailgated by a lorry i would wait for a stretch of road where the lorry could not pass then slow down to a stop.then acelerate away leaving the lorry struggling to get up to speed again.

They dont like that one bit. works very well on a hill.

Must have been an amazingly fast lorry to be able to speed up so fast as to be able to overtake you and swerve in front of you

Speed limits are what they say on the tin, a limit, not a target speed, a lot of people seem to ignore that fact

Whil'st in no way defending abhorrent driving practice by any road user, this does raise some comments.

Not knowing what size of truck was involved in this very bad driving,ie was it large enough to have a tachograph fitted.

I assume that these are still checked for accuracy every year.

Why the offending driver had not overtaken on a duel carriageway but acted the way he did is beyond me,but unfortunately that is now an all too common occurance for the red mist to descend for the smallest imaginary slight.

I now try and think, let them get upset and raise their blood pressure, not mine, anyway I would rather now have them in front of me

where I can see them and control the distance between us.Its not always easy though.!!!

Just a personal way of TRYING to react.

I speeded up to about 55 as I was going to turn off the duel carriageway at the next junction, about 1/3 mile away.
