You could try Bars Seal.this will harm NOT your cooling system such as blocking things.whatever anyone says.

Used by some manufactures in new cars. Can be got at Halfords and such.

Dont put it directly into expansion tank but drain enough coolant off to remove top hose and crumble the sealent to a powder and pour into hose, refix hose, top up tank. leak will stop very quickly and permanent.

hello

in case the bottom collector is plastic made -- it it very small change to repair by putty such us Belzona or Devcon.

If this collector is brass bade then it is eady to sold it (i am not sure it is brass made though)

in the worst case it is reasonable to source it in scrapers.

regards / Igor

Generally Igormus speaks a lot of truth, so generally please listen to what he has to say and take his advise, it can save a lot of time,,

  • 1 year later...

OK so I should've checked the forum before putting K-Seal in the expansion bottle :dontgetit: & now I've still got a rad leak...can I now follow acetip's advice & put some Bars directly into top of rad? Will it mix ok with the K-Seal?

Damn ECP guy persuaded me to try K-Seal instead of Bars!

Also anybody know of good source for newish rad for early ('98) diesel avensis?

thanks

You're wasting your time with any type of rradiator sealant. Replacement radiators are aavailable from any local motor ffactor and online ffrom eBay.

Ok thanks gazza but seems like Bars rad sealant is used by vehicle manufacturers who shld know what works...I know rads are available but its old car so no point fitting a new OEM part that costs nearly as much webuyanycar.com are offering!

I'd be fitting a new one as said already ,£50 odd quid online with a years warranty for a pattern part, and away you go cost you a damn sight more to replace the car. ;) .
