Vsc/trc And Cel On

Hello,

My VSC/TRC and check engine lights both came on today. I don't have access to a code reader so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what might cause this and if it is something I can fix myself?

For info the car seems to run OK... revs freely, no noticable loss of power, brakes work (although I haven't tried an emergency stop to see if ABS works), etc.

If not solved, PM me your address and will send ye down a wee loan of code reader / manual when I return to That Scotland 13/2.

Have relatives in Medstead if you run away with it, and they can all fight....LOL. Price has dropped on eBay too.

I bought an ODB-II bluetooth module from eBay a couple of months ago. It was 7 quid, so not a large investment. With a free app on my Andoid phone, I was able to see that the fault causing the same light show as yours was low current in the oxygen sensor heater (a common fault, apparently).

I jiggled the connector (MSc in Electrical Engineering) and, using the app, I cleared the error. It hasn't come back as yet.

Hi guys, looking for info on what code reader to buy in the £20.00-40.00 bracket, was looking at something to connect to the lap top or i-pad but would a stand alone one be a better option? any help appreciated.

George.. This one is excellent.. There are cheaper ones but this one is very good ! It displays the problem and not just a code ..

Whereabouts in Hampshire are you? I have an Autel scanner and if you are not too far I could help you with the code reading. I'm in Headley Down near Bordon

I'm in Fleet so not a million miles away. I'll pm you.

That's interesting. I thought O2/Lambda sensor faults only lit up the check engine light? Seems odd it would light up the VSC light too as surely that is a totally different system, but I'm no car expert so who knows? :g:

Kev, Thank you for the offer. It's very kind seeing as you are so far away but I would rather not risk your scanner in the post especially when Angelos is just down the road.

Met up with David this evening and read the code. Steve was quite right, oxygen sensor, spot on!

Indeed, who would have thought that light combination would point to an O2 sensor? So good spot Steve! I'll be checking for loose/corroded connections at the weekend.

Also, the lights actually aren't on any more. When I started up this evening to go meet Angelos they went off like they should. It's been started up 6 or 7 times this evening and they have gone off each time so hopefully I won't need to be replacing the sensor just yet.

For information, the exact error was:

P2238 O2 Sensor Positive Current Control Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 1

And thank you again Angelos. I appreciate you taking the time to meet up and read the codes.
