Rav4 - 4X4

I own a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 GX (2.0 L)

Can somebody please tell me how does the 4x4 works, is it a 40/60 or full time 4x4, and is the button on the dash for diff lock or to change over to 4x4 ?

I never used the car where I needed to use 4x4,not even used it on a dirt road.

Thanks,

Deon.

From what I understand-

Pulls away in 4x4 every time.

Once up to speed drops to Front Wheel Drive.

4x4 kicks in again if needed (car decides-not you!)

Diff Button is for low speed muddy/snowy manoeuvres (never needed in normal use). Never had the need to push it in all the snow we had.

Thanks Dave,

This make sense to me now! No where in the hand book does it tells you how the 4x4 works(operate)I have not ever drove this car where I needed the 4x4 system or the Diff lock.

Thanks again,

Deon.

I take it you have a non UK model?

The 4x4 system MAY be different to a UK spec

Hi,

Yes,I own a South African model ! In the 2.0 litre petrol model you get a GX & VX , Standard manual 5/6 speed & Automatic gearboxes in both models. The GX is the basic model and the VX is the more luxury model.

Then you get 3 or 4 diesel models also.

Go to www.Toyota.co.za to see all the models in South Africa.

Thank you,

Deon.

The rear axle has a small clutch on the input end. It is controlled by the computer and can provide stepless engagement of the rear axle. It is constantly working all the time you drive.
