Hi Guys,

I have a 2007 2.0 DVD and am considering towing a small caravan which weighs 1280 kgs fully laden

My handbook states that the towing limit is 1300 kgs so on paper it should be okay

Is there anyone on the forum who has actually used this particular model of Avensis to tow a caravan ,and if so how well did it perform?

Any comments on this are very much appreciated

Yes they are an excellent towcar. the maximum towing limit is very understated I towed a far heavier caravan for thousans of miles with one before I finally found out it is in fact a legal towing limit and not just advisory as I foolishly thought.

I have been towing caravan 1300kg laden weight with 54 plate 2.0 D4D without any problems. The kerb weight of car of approx. 2000 kg gives a 65% ratio compared to the advised maximum of 85% . It tows well and can easily maintain the 60mph on motorways and have had no problems over hilly ground when in Highlands of Scotland.
