I am about to buy Toyota Avensis 1 2001 D4D. I would like to ask if it is possible to somehow connect, for example, my phone to Toyotas standart stereo (it has CD player) through AUX wire without spending a fortune on it?

If you Google Connects2 and Xcarlink, you may find something suitable.

If possible, please state the model fitted to your car. There may be a socket to connect either the device from the companies mentioned or to plug the device directly. I am not familiar with some of the Toyota audio systems.

You have the later model with some functions integrated with the stereo, and changing the stereo may loose those functions.

The options are available.
