2008 D4D Pollen Filter

I have a Yaris TR which my mechanic recently serviced for me. He fitted a pollen filter as he said there wasn't one in it. Fine, I thought. (I have since read on here that some Yaris models don't have them fitted.)

My question is this: since the pollen filter was fitted, the car seems to take longer to demist in the mornings. Is this a common problem and is it linked to the pollen filter being fitted? Should I remove it?

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have the ventilation setting to fresh air and not on recirc. Leave the filter in as it's new it wont be the cause of the misting. Other than leaks or a wet interior I can't see it being anything else!

Yeah it's set to fresh air Stan. Any ideas what it could be?

Okay, I would have a look at the pollen filter itself to see if it's been fitted correctly. It's an easy job just remove the passenger glove box by pulling it down and squeezing the sides in and pulling the whole thing out. The filter can be seen at the top end of the housing, remove and inspect, it should not be crumpled if of correct type and if fitted correctly. If nothing untoward is found then try leaving it out to see it the demisting gets back to normal as it could be coincidental!

You will probably need to use a higher fan setting to get the same airflow, and if you didn't usually use the fan before you will definitely need to now.

(Our 2008 T3 never had a pollen filter, though it has the enclosure for it. It also didn't have a bulb in the boot light .... )

I've fitted a pollen filter to my petrol TR recently and haven't noticed any change in how long it takes to demist. Having said that it's always been fairly bad at clearing.

make sure the filter is fitted the correct way around. There are air flow arrows on the oem ones

No, the flow arrow(s) are sometimes marked on non Toyota filters. Genuine Toyota(o.e.m.) are marked "UP" with an arrow, in a little box on the edge of the element.

Our 2010 Yaris appears to mist up quite easily at this time of year. I suspect a water leak but so far have been unable to locate the source. I have been considering replacing the Cabin Filter to see if it makes any difference although the car has only done 14,000 miles.

It's possible to get it to de-mist quite quickly by using the Air Con and a high fan speed.
