2013 Toyota Yaris Loss In Mileage

Hi.

As the post suggests, I have a 2013 Toyota Yaris, and I have noticed over the past month or so that my mileage from a tank of fuel has dropped from 360ish miles to the tank, to about 270ish.

Is this just due to the colder weather we are having the UK?

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for your replies.

Oooh that is pretty nasty; What engine's yours and what do you use it for typically?

The winter 'drop' can be pretty harsh; Worst case scenario is a brand new one that is diesel and only used for short journeys - The drop can be shockingly bad in that scenario!

On the bright side it just makes the summer springback all the more dramatic as the warmer temps combined with the loosening of the engine push the mpgs back up :)

Check your tyre pressures, the colder weather can cause the pressure to drop and that will hurt the mpg.

Also, if it is very cold and you leave the engine running to defrost in the morning, 5 minutes per day every day soon adds up.

I'm running a Yaris 1.33 and have seen a very slight drop in MPG from about 45 to 43 MPG, no idea how that equates to a tank full-sorry

My 2003 Yaris d4d sees mpg drop from c 54mpg around town in summer to 45 in winter...

Depends on how many short journeys you do as starting from cold and accelerating with a cold engine significantly increases fuel consumption by between 20 to 40%... And hills - up them of course - as well.

Its a 1.3 petrol

When I first had it a full tank did me 360 miles. I use it for traveling to work which is a 10 mile run on a 60mph dual carriageway way, and some A roads. But thinking about it last night, there gave been road works on the dual carriageway, also at night I have let the car warm up before driving it.

I filled up tonight and in total I got 273 from my last tank. The computer now says that my cruise range is 338 from a full tank when its normally 363, is it taking my present mpg into consideration?

Thanks for all the replies

How much fuel did you put in to do the 273 miles? I would hop onto fuelly.com and you can track your mileage to the exact figure and compare with the dash read out. My old auris was 3mpg out from dash to tank where as my current car seems to be about .5mpg out

You have a 7.5 gallon tank from memory so @ 40mpg it would give you a cruising range of 300 miles

Im getting about 300 miles on a tank , I'm getting about 37-39 MPGs according to Fuelly , i have the auto version , but then again I'm quite heavy footed with my driving style.

i think the tank is 42 litres which is 9 gallons actually. I usually get to the fuel light and fill up which takes about 33 litres in petrol.

Out of curiosity, what is everyone's best recorded MPG?

On mine about 50.9 on the display but according to fuelly 49.9 and 354 miles but I still had a bit in the tank

My best recorded according to my PDA's fuelly app is 74mpg.

Before I started recording, I once (But alas only once!) pulled off 800 miles on a single tank but that was a mixture of extraordinary favourable conditions, luck and the fact that the car was new so I was driving it like my horrible old fiesta!

My current average is low 60's, which is a 80% commute+town driving with the occasional weekend motorway run, but my driving style has really declined since my first Yaris and it's a real battle between driving economically and having fun :naughty:.

If you are letting your car warm up before driving, it will waste a lot of fuel. better just to drive it - will warm up quicker.
