Warranty About To Expire On My Iq

My used approved IQ had a 12 month warranty, when I bought it almost a year ago, that is about to expire in Jan 2014, My IQ seems to be fine and running well having covered less than 40,000 miles in total and about 5000 miles since I bought it.

My question is simple, what should I look out for before the warranty expires ?

Its had the EGR valve done, and I is running perfectly, I just don't want to miss anything before it expires because after it will all be at my expense !

I plan to service it myself in the summer of 2014. (assuming we get a UK summer) !

I have been reading this forum for almost 12 months and cannot see that I have missed anything !

All Comments Welcomed.

Positive Regards,

Bob.

You could take out a third party warranty, don't know the cost, but could offer peice of mind.

The Toyota extended warranty would provide better cover than a third party warranty, but the car will need to be serviced by a Toyota dealer.

I wasn't aware you could take a Toyota warranty out so far down the line.

You can purchase a Toyota extended warranty up to the time the car is 8 years old.

Copied from the Toyota website:

A Toyota Extended Warranty is substantially similar to the warranty you get with a brand new car, but it applies to the car you own already, whether you were the first owner or you bought it used. The Toyota Extended Warranty can be renewed until the vehicle is 8 years old, and if a part covered by the Toyota Extended Warranty suffers electrical or mechanical failure at any time during the term, Toyota is committed to fixing it. You don't pay for replacement parts or labour.

I might look into that in two years when my 5 year warranty runs out, thanks.

What I did with one of my former cars, was to have it thoroughly checked by the ANWB. This is the Dutch road-service.

They have a station to investigate the whole car, from top to bottom and make a note on paper of all the things that have to get done / or what they find that does not stand up to the standard quality.

This would cost in Holland about 160 euro's and is called "The allmost out of warrenty checkup" ...

Here (sorry in Dutch): http://www.anwb.nl/auto/koop-en-verkoop/auto-kopen/aankoopkeuring

We don't have anything similar to that in the UK. Usually the options facing the owner when the warranty expires, is to take out an extended warranty with the manufacturer, take out a warranty with a third party, or go without a warranty. People have found issues with third party warranties re coverage, refusal to pay out for repairs, etc - more so than the manufacturers extended warranty.

Incidentally it seems that if one has a Toyota extended warranty expiring when the car is eight years old, The Warranty Group (who manage the extended warranty programme on behalf of Toyota) may offer to renew the warranty until the car is ten years old, at a very competitive price. The TWG and the Toyota warranties are identical. Toyota dealers can only offer Toyota extended warranties until the car is 8 years old.
