Sw20 S3-Ge Engine Changes

Hi,

I'm confused about the S3-GE engines and the various changes to it.

On the fourth generation Celica the S3-GE had Toyota's original variable induction system (TVIS) similar to that used on the 4A-GE MR2.

By 1990 this set up had been ditched for a system using a plenum chamber - but is this the version of the first generation SW20?

I think the first two revisions of the SW20 kept the 158bhp engine - then there was a power hike to 173bhp. What changed to allow this and did these engines continue until the Rev 5 cars? I know some Rev 5 cars had BEAMs engines but, sadly, only Japan and New Zealand (anyone know why NZ got the goodness and nowhere else)?

Thanks for your help,

Prof.

Thanks, so did the first SW20 come with the Acoustic Control Induction System and not TVIS? Wikipedia would seem to suggest so.

Yep I think that's the same - but thanks for the info all the same.
