Confused New Iq Owner

Hi guys,

Go easy on me but I don't quite understand alloy wheel/tyre measurements. Basically I have very recently purchased a 60 plate IQ2 but do not like the stock alloys, the size of said alloys are exactly what I want though! Having a slight skim read through the manual I cannot seem to find the size of alloy I need! Would any 15" wheel do?

Also, the intent is to get black alloys that don't show much through if that makes sense, any suggestions? Thank you in advance and await you're replies :)

Harvey

Could have a look at the following: http://www.wheelfitment.eu/

The site has a facility where you can input the make and model, and find the correct wheel for your car.

Wheel fitments for the IQ is limited if you want to do it properly. 15 and 16's will fit no problem but when you get to 17 & 18's, you have to be very careful on the correct offsets and wheel widths. I mention this because it depends if your looking to lower the car in the future. Most people say "Nah just keeping it standard" but believe you me.. I said this and mines on Eibach springs and 17" Borbets.

If your keeping it standard then you'll be fine :) Any help just say, I'm happy to assist and many other knowledgeable people on here :)

They look good, but I bet they are a bugger to keep clean?

Personally I think black wheels are a waste of time, spend all that money then they blend into the tyres and look like nothing, Silver for me every time.

Are you intending to re-use the tyres you have or replace for new? The standard iQ wheels are fairly narrow, 5" I think and the tyres on the car fit those wheels perfectly but they wouldn't stretch out to fit a 7" wide wheel like in your link meaning new tyres are needed. If you need new tyres then you could go up a size to 16" like the iQ3 has or even go to 17" and fit 205/45 17. I intend to do this fairly soon myself once I get the wheels I have refurbished. :)

I noticed this years ago when I learned to be a car valet for a summer job.
The guy that taught me had (just by luck) two light blue Vauxhall Vivas that
were both very dirty. He told me to wash the bodywork of one, but don't touch
the wheels and the other just clean the wheels and tyres, then come and see me
he said and tell me which one looks better.

I was astounded! the one with the clean bodywork only looked awful, the one
with just the clean wheels looked great. Here endeth the first lesson he said,
a cars wheel colour and cleanliness is what makes the car, silver is usually the best as it has many
shades and goes with any body colour. The only exception to this is a white car
with matching white wheels. Black wheels on a black car ought to look cool, but to me it just looks dirty.

Now I do realise it's a matter of personal taste, but I think this generally
holds true having seen black, red, green, well almost every colour wheels on
cars, either matching, or contrasting the body colour. To me they all looked
horrible. Lacquered alloys are a pain, one tiny scratch and you can watch the
corrosion creep slowly under the lacquer. Yuk!

Here are my 18's which are graphite and silver. I think spoke wheels look better on the car

Really like your set up David. Those wheels flow nicely with the lines of the IQ.

This is why I went for Matt Anthracite Borbet's on mine. Black would of been far too dark for my personal style but this really depends on the size and style of the wheel itself. Some can look great, whilst others look far too dark contrasting the tyres.

I've noticed most websites give a ET38 offset for our IQ's. This in fact is wrong if you lower it anymore than the average lowering spring. Anything from 42-50 offset on a 17 or 18" wheel is perfect ONLY if your planning to lower it more than the average Joe. Keeping in mind, a 215 width tyre is fine for clearance on lowering springs but any back seat passengers or coilovers and a 205 is the maximum width to clear the front fender. The rear of the IQ is fine, it's the front that needs the perfect offset and tyre width. Obviously as the IQ is very small, length wise, even back seat luggage or passengers will weight the whole car down, not just the back in most normal cars.

Bearing in mind I'm talking about coilovers, which I'm considering in the future and therefore don't want to be changing my wheels just to accommodate the coilovers. Hope this is useful to anyone looking into the perfect size and looking into coilovers or who carry a great weight of passengers all the time :) Just a heads up.
