P1872 On a Japanese 1999 SCP10 Yaris freetronic is a fault related to the gear shift lever " Shift lever circuit malfunction " and occurs when an error is detected after comparing the switching condition of each gear position switch with the condition of the shift lever switch.

Diagnosis requires the Toyota diagnostic computer to run a test and then compare the output voltage levels of each shift selector switch if these are ok to then check the continuity of the transmission control wiring harness and if that is ok check all terminal pins on the transmission control ECU.

I should be more specific, description of fault FSW (Open or Short) what is that? What is FSW in this case? I found on Bulgarian forum that there are FSW and RSW (rear and forward switch?) the fault comes only when it is shifted in the gear (not into reverse).

FSW & RSW are switches in the selector unit which detect your input on the shift lever, they detect your intended gear position and the ECU then disengages the clutch and shifts the gear. The switches are not available individually only as part on the entire gear stick assy.

None of the diagnostic instructions mention an open circuit fault as an open circuit has a different DTC code P1872 relates to a voltage anomaly in the switch, harness or ECU

As this is my first experience with free tronic, i have a question, the pump is working every 3-4 seconds when the engine is running, or the drivers door is open should it be like that? If not what are the possible reasons?
