Celica Gt4 St205 Suspension Knock

Hey all, I have recently brought a 95' GT4 ST205 with a few suspension issues after having mechanics diagnose the problems and reading a million posts on forums I decided to replace (at some serious cost)........ The banana arms (both sides) Camber control arms (both sides) Fig 8's (both sides) Track rod inners and ends (both sides) and assumed this would make the vehicle feel almost new. It still has a knock on drivers side when at slow speeds or on bumpy roads, it is fine under braking and also when boosting which leads me to believe there is a very small bit of play somewhere?? I have had the work checked to make sure everything is tight enough an all seems fine. I have also just read a post about rack bolts coming loose, is this common?? I am having them checked this week but could do with some help in case this is not the problem.

To anyone who got this far, Sorry about the essay

Hi Dom

Did you get this resolved in the end, im in a similar predicament and don't want to start buying parts that are not necessary. mine pulls depending on the road surface both ways which could be the figure of 8 or lower banana arms and get the low speed knock as you mentioned.

I read somewhere it might be the crush tubes that need replacing.

Hi, yea I did sort it out in the end. It was the suspension top mount. Fairly cheap to fix. Used ones were £65 each. I replaced the shocks, springs and top mounts with used ones for £175 for the lot. (both sides) Replaced myself in a couple of hours and was sorted. Hope this helps. The fig 8's also do the same thing with knocking at low speeds but are very expensive. Blueprint do them for £405 per side so I'd change the top mounts first. I jacked the car up and under the bonnet i removed the 3 bolts from top of shock and dropped it down so I could see the top mount, I then held the shock and was able to move the top mount slightly. It may be worth checking before you start buying stuff cos the parts on these are very expensive for some reason. Hope you sort it.

Thanks for the update, do you still have the car and where in Berkshire are you, send me a PM maybe we can meet up, some people are telling me the top mounts tend to bulge after a while as an indicator to failure.

Failing that mine pulls both ways depending on road surface which is why i suspect the figure of 8s and lower banana arms (albeit last time I had it on a ramp all I could see were the crush tubes were not looking great as the tapered end was looking as if they had been damaged /crushed)
