Hello,

I just bought a 2007 avensis 1.6 with 18.000 miles.

My steering wheel is not returning to the straight.

I made the recall, also made an allignment.

Bushes seems new.

Problems persists.

Anybody had the same problem?

If your saying that the steering wheel is not in the straight position after you have had the alignment done and any necessary work done then the steering wheel needs taking off and realigning its as simple as that .

No, I mean the car does not return to straight after a turn (right or left). It continues to turn. It does it 5-10degrees from the straight.

Like when you don't have enough castor on front wheels.

I know some cars need to resset the SAS(steering angle sensor) after an allignment.

I am sure they didn't do that.

Time for a revisit to the people that did the alignment then buddy, :)

If they knew they would have already done this.

Do you have any clue Exvec.

I mean when you make allignment do you also do reallign the sensor..?

My IQ3 1.3 vvt doesn't return to the "straight" after turning, this is a potentially dangerous problem with front wheel drive cars. Rear wheel drive cars don't go "straight" after turning either, no torque steer!

Because Toyota have cleverly designed the steering geometry it doesn't do it. You will have to get used to steering safely, under proper control without slipping the wheel through your hands.

Not that I'm a great believer in statistics, but many accidents are caused by this slipping action and is really best avoided. Torque steer can be lethal especially with a hot front wheel drive car like a Smart 4/4 Brabus, it can rip the wheel from your hands if your not aware of it all the time.

Unless it's staying, or pulling to one side only, or very stiff, I would say this is correct and normal.

Vox, my previous post is irony.

How much torque steer do think a car like avensis with 110 hp might have.?

Because you probably don't know, I am telling you it's zero.

Anyway.

Err, thanks John,

As of quite a few years ago, virtually all front wheel drive cars had torque steer, the more powerful the worse it was under hard acceleration.

At 110 BHP I would guess on a much older poorer designed FWD car, a fair bit I would say.

Accelerating out of a corner, you could always slip the wheel back to straight. The danger is letting it slip too soon, or too far, as I'm sure you know.

Before I was Trained to pass and then teach advanced driving by an ex police traffic instructor, I used to do it as well.

I eventually hit a curb and ruined a complete wheel. I was lucky! That was in a small ford with about 65 BHP I guess and front wheel drive.

My friend had an Avensis, 1.6 and I have driven it often, you're right, no torque steer.

I've been driving a rear wheel drive car for around 13 years and as it was old and the new Smarts were not to my liking.

I decided to try an IQ. One of the things I was looking at was how much torque steer there was.

That was one of the main deciding factors, I bought it, because there wasn't any.

Apart from it being far too big for my needs, the Avensis is a superb car, I enjoyed driving it very much.

I did say in a post here somewhere, "The IQ is the best car I've ever bought" it is, but not driven. That accolade would go to one or more of the big rear wheel/four wheel drive La Mon

type road racers. I unfortunately have never had the chance to drive one of the big juicy Toyotas.

Ok Vox, you are 100% right.

Now please delete your posts from topic.

As I don't need your expert knowledge.

OK John,

I'm sorry if I upset you, I was just trying to get you to know me and hoping I would get to know you.

It is obvious to me you do have a very good knowledge of auto engineering. It was I thought nice to talk to a kindred spirit, but I guess I was wrong.

If you don't like my posts, please just block me. as I'm not getting in to a flaming match with you.
