Avensis Fuel Filler Solenoid - Some Advice Please

Hi

Hopefully I'm in the right place.

My fuel filler flap stopped locking at the weekend - it opened fine, but wouldn't close. Anyway, I took it to the Toyota dealership today and they have said that I need a new solenoid (the black plastic bit that comes out to hold the flap closed had snapped off) - only £265!! :ermm: So, I've managed to source a replacement one at a scrap yard and just wondered if anyone knows how easy (and safe) it would be to replace it myself?

I've found another post on here about the same subject (http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/107385-t4-avensis-fuel-flap-will-not-shut/) but although it looks quite straightforward, it doesn't indicate what level of knowledge you would need. I'm quite good with cars - I've got a 38 year old MG Midget that I look after myself just to give you an idea (obviously a very basic car, but I do all the servicing, and have replaced the shocks, made and fitted a new accelerator cable etc myself) so have the patience and a basic level of skill to do that, but obviously the Toyota is a completely different kettle of fish with all the electronics etc.

What do you think? Any advice would be very welcome so that I can save some money. The Toyota garage wanted £50+ just to try and clamp the broken piece back onto the solenoid with a jubilee clip and obviously couldn't guarantee that would work, so am trying to avoid going anywhere near them if I want any cash left.
