Your Warranty and Service book will show the servicing schedules for your car, and whether additional work is needed at the 4 year/40,000 mile service.

Toyota's servicing intervals are 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first - so services are either carried out on an age basis or mileage basis. For example if one's car is one year old and has done 6000 miles, servicing is based on age; if one's car is 9 months old and has done 10,000 miles, servicing is based on mileage.

Intermediate services are due at 1 year/10,000 miles, 3 years/30,000 miles, 5 years/50,000 miles, etc.

Full services are due at 2 years/20,000 miles, 4 years/40,000 miles, 6 years/60,000 miles, etc

Have a look at Toyota's Fixed Price Servicing Scheme: http://www.toyota.co.uk/service-and-maintenance/car-servicing

Also have a look at the Maintenance Options on the drop down menu on the same page, and also download the pdf to Compare Servicing Info.

Ive had a look at whats involved, and i think it says service cost @£200 plus cost for brake fluid change , plus 4 or five others checks will be chargeable if/when needs parts , filters fluids etc. its adding up. Especially if recommend brakes etc. need doing . .

Which engine do you have - 1.0 litre petrol, 1.33 litre petrol or 1.4 D4D diesel. Which transmission - manual or Multi Mode Transmission (MMT) - as this can make a difference to what is needed.

The pollen filter (cabin air filter) can be bought separately and fitted quite easily by yourself.

Its a 1.33 manual. Service says 195. Its due brake fluid change guessing 50 maybe for that aswell. Could change pollen myself but guessing maybe that's not expwnsive . just trying to work out the worst case scenario if every serviceable thing needs doing. Was wondering if it would likely need any brake parts changing at this mileage?

Toyota's Fixed Price Repairs gives you an idea of costs for changing brake pads, etc -

Could have the service done by Toyota, see if anything additional is required, and if brakes need attention, shop about before deciding where to get the work done.

Wow, this service could hit the 4 hundred mark! Ridiculous. That's without even thinking about the added cost of brakes or worse . . pollen filter diy , and shopping around if brakes necessary is sound advice thanks

You may find the following topic interesting reading - a member who was thinking about doing the 40,000 mile service on his IQ himself, and eventually decided to go with the Toyota Fixed Price Service: http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/158013-iq-service-items/

I'd be inclined to check with the dealer whether the front differential oil needs changing, which if they say it doesn't, will reduce the cost for you

Great, I can only find a short list of fixed price service items. Is there a link anywhere, where I can see the full list maybe . .

That's my approach with both our new Yaris and my Mondeo. I use the main dealer(s) for the generic service items and then any additionals (brakes etc) I use a local independent. Actually the independent is a Toyota specialist and I use them for both cars and they allow you to supply the parts as well. Lower labour rates and a more personal service.

Although we haven't had to use the servicing facilities for our new Yaris yet (it was serviced before we purchased it) the Mondeo service prices are quite interesting. The local Ford dealer is quite expensive, while another dealer (about 15 miles away) is far cheaper - and I've used that knowledge to drive down the cost when booking in at my local dealer, normally saving about £30-£40.

Cool , kind of getting it now. For 40,000 mile service schedule requirements. Full service £195 + brake fluid change £39. = £234 (100% certain of these costs). Then possible items if work is required - Front diff. Oil - £39. Rear diff. Oil. - £25 +. Coolant change. - £65+. Gear oil - £39+. Transfer box oil. - £? Clutch fluid - £? Transmission oil. - £? Charcoal canister. - £? 4 wheel alignment. - £? Aircon filter. - £? Pollen filter - £39 (may do myself). Whats the chances allmost of this work needs doing? I know its unlikely but trying to think what the most likely scenario will be.

Out of the above, you may need:

1. full service - £195

2. brake fluid change - £39

3. possibly gearbox oil/front differential oil change (listed as same in the Service & Warranty book) (see what the dealer says) - £39

4. 'air con filter' is the same item as 'pollen filter' - £39 (not if you do it yourself, and 'how to do it' should also be covered in the owners manual)

Clutch fluid should be changed at 80,000 and coolant first changed at 100,000 - so you should be able to discount those.

Wheel alignment only if there seems to be an issue with the car pulling to one side or if uneven wear on tyres is evident.

Brakes - will report if brake discs or pads need attention, and will also provide an indication of how worn pads are. Again if brakes need work, you can shop around.

. Some good info there . . . Thanks
