Hi all, have a avensis diesel d4d and only noticed that it will not go above 110km even with your foot to the floor, also when on a moterway if there is an slight incline then the car struggles and you have to drop a gear, pinking slightly at times. Had turbo and injectors checked,ok there also vac lines fine. i also had a diagnostic done by toyota, nothing showed there. Guy tells me to drive it until something shows up otherwise would be exspensive to investigate. Drives fine otherwise just dont be in a hurry.

Any clues????

Thanks........

Giving a guess, I would say MAF sensor and EGR.

The EGR can get blocked and stick, whilst the MAF is not giving the ECU the correct reading.

Cleaning the EGR should help. Check the forum on how to access and clean the EGR for your engine.

The MAF sensor can be cleaned but it is better to replace it.

I assume the car was checked for fault codes, was nothing found at all? Does the engine management light come on and then go off when started.

no fault codes nothing found, yes it comes on with the rest of the cluster and then goes off when started. Strange, it drove fine on the motorway this morning drove like a pig this afternoon on the moterway

Being intermittent makes it all the more difficult to diagnose, but the following could cause your issue:

EGR valve sticking open due to carbon build up, remove and clean EGR valve and intake manifold.

Loose intercooler hose, which comes off under boost and slides back on when off boost, check all hoses for security.

Sticking SCV valve, removing and cleaning may give temporary fix but a modified valve will be needed eventually.

Thanks, will get my hands dirty tomorrow and start with the EGR. Never crossed my mind about intercooler.

I cleaned the EGR which was not that bad fairly clean,, have to say going a bit better but still the problem remains. Where is the SCV valves located and how do you check if faulty.Any idea of price?

Thanks again,

Have a great Easter break....
