Hi,

Your friend may be right, though its hard to say as you have not given any details of what is / is not happening.

If you turn the ingntion switch to start and nothing appears to happen then it may well be the actual starter switch on the end of the ignition barrel, or the relay, or a wiring fault.

You could prove it by wiring a manual switch in parallel with the old switch, or if not confident with the electics get someone to help you. ( not sure on the Rolla, but on my old avensis you could get to the switch on the underside of the steering column without removing the whole ignition barrel )

Keep us posted :)

There's a known problem with the starter on the 2.0D4D but I've not heard of anything similar on the petrol.

Does it just not start when you try and crank it? Or does it try but really struggle to?

Hi,

Yes, that Pic made me wonder too...

The Starter Motor switch is usually a bolt on part of the whole ignition switch assembly; however think its either very expensive or only available as part of the whole ingition switch.

The starter switch is normally just two wires so obtaining a suitable switch and locating it somewhere on the lower dashboad and transfering the wires across is a cheap fix.

I used one of these switches on my old Avensis , worked a treat and you have a fancy start button to press.
