Don't Hear Warning Sounds

Hello everybody

I am an owner of a brand new Verso and most of the time I aqm happy with it. It is a little bit higher, which is convinient for a senior citizen like me. It is very quiet, too.

Maybe too quiet, because I cannot hear well the warning signals. For instance, when I have the headlights on and shut down the engine and leave the car (with the key), I hardly hear the head-light warning signal. Well. I have not heard the crickets since 20 years, and the frequency of the warning signal is so high that elderly peolpe cannot hear it well. Another problem is the sound of the blinker relay. I can hear it , when the car is standing at the traffic lights, but not, when I am driving and the wheels give noise.

Does anybody there know, if the warning signal frequency could be changed to a more well-heard area (about 800 - 1000 Hz)? Or, is it possible to increase the intensity of the alarm sound, for instance, by relocating the buzzer so that the front console does not damp the sound? Is it possible to change the blinker relay to a more noisy one?

You may say that use a hearing aids. Well, sometimes I do, but they are anoying and amplify all kinds of unnecessary noise.

In the first instance, as it is a new vehicle, I would go back to the dealer, describe what your issue is, and see what can be done.

Hi, and thank you of your comment. I visited the dealer and tested the warning voice of another new Verso. It was too quiet for me, too. Then I asked an experienced technician, if they have tools to lower the frequency or make it more intense, but the answer was no. I asked him to write a technical report to the factory, because I think the problem can easily be solved in future models.

I am planning to construct a frequence divider, which takes the sound via a microphone, filters out the backround noise, divides the frequency by 2 ( or 4) and forwards it to another buzzer. This kind of a circuit does not violate the warranty of the car. Let us see, it may take time...

I've never heard my indicator warning beeper from new. Unless I remember to cancel them Wife has to tell me that I've left the indicators on

Hi

Today I measured the frequency of the warning beeper of my Verso. I used a microphone with a preamplifier and an ordinary digital multimeter. I got a frequency of 4000 Hz. The frequency should be bellow 2000Hz so that I could hear it, and about 1000 Hz to hear it well.

The problem of too quiet blinker sound could probaply be fixed b y changing the blinker relay to another, more noisy one.

I also find the blinker sound far too quiet. Much louder in my previous cars which were Fords.

This isn't just an annoyance, it's safety related - I witnessed a near miss caused by the car infront driving along with it's indicator on - a truck pulled out in front of it from a side road and the ensuing narrowly avoided accident was followed by narrowly avoided road rage. :bangin:

Can I also agree that the blinker/indicator sound is far too quiet.

Purely on safety grounds (drivers unawre that they are still indicating) Toyota really need to look into this.

I read recently about some sort of loud sounder, meant for motorcycles, which can be fitted to the indicators.

The unit seems to have 3 wires so my guess is that the black wire goes to the negative and a red wire goes to left indicator and the other red wire to the right indicator. I guess the easiest place to wire this would be in the boot where you can tap into the light cluster wiring using the supplied scotch lock connectors. :)

Where is the indicator relay? If it's in the cab then probably easy to install there.

I'd put a switch in the negative (ground) somewhere as well so you can turn it off when you get annoyed by it :)

A lot of things can be programmed and changed, not sure if what you want can be programmed but I was looking at some things that can be programmed in an Auris Hybrid the other day, there is loads that can be done by your dealer by plugging into their equipment. Get them to plug your car in and have a look
