Aygo Headlamp Condensation Advice

Hello I'm new here and have just bought a 3 year old Aygo. I think it's brill and am really enjoying it at the mo.

Unfortunately the driver's side headlamp keeps misting up. I'd appreciate memebers' thoughts on this. The car's still under warranty. Is this normal? The passenger side doesn't mist up.

Is it a quick fix or is the unit a sealed unit which can be replaced under warranty?

I'd really appreciate some help here :flowers:

Thanks

Hello Alastair - welcome to Toyota Owners Club

Headlamps can be subject to misting or condensation, although we've never experienced the issue so far after owning 17 new cars over the years.

If you've bought the Aygo from a dealer, take it back for them to look at.

Here's a quick way of clearing and reducing the the likelyhood of headlight condensation:

Remove the H4 headlight bulb. (Disconnect the electrical plug, remove the rubber boot, and unhook the clip)

Use a hairdryer and blast it in the hole where the bulb was to evaporate the condensation.

Five minutes should be long enough.

Then when replacing the rubber boot, smear it with petroleum jelly along the inside lip

This will create a seal which will help to prevent moisture getting back in.

If it clears eventually I wouldn't worry about it too much? Surely switching on the bulb will make it dry out and people will still see the light anyway?

But the moisture will stay inside the unit and when it cools, it'll condense on the glass again. Ideally, you do need to get the moisture out.

Hi, I had this problem on one, then both, headlamps. I ignored it for a couple of years and then when it was getting more of a problem and not disappearing even when parked facing the Sun for hours, I had them both replaced under warranty. Problem solved. So I would see if yours is covered still and if so get it done :bye:
