Toyota Avensis Sat Nav Display Issue

Afternoon

I have a 04 plate Avensis, in the last week the sat nav display which also includes fuel information has darkened to the point now there is just a black box around the display, similar to a dodgy calcalator, if the screen remains on it does lighten up for a few seconds but then darkens again.

Rang my local Toyota service centre who would be happy to look at it and tell me the issue but I would have to pay £60 for the pleasure.

Any help would be greatly received

I have seen this problem on these models and its usually has one of two cures.

First, try a hard re set of the system - this entails disconnecting the cars Battery - and holding the two Battery terminals together ( not the battery- the Battery lead connectors ) Hold them together - get something to hold them for 10 mins ...then leave the battery off for a further 30 mins..

Reconnect the battery and try operating the system as normal... if the hard re set has worked , it will be ok.

If not - then s an internal problem with the unit itself - usually a problem with the chipset - but you would need to locate a radio repairers ether locally or online --and dispatch the system for repair.
