Egr Valve Location

Hi all,

I'm trying to find out the location of the EGR valve on my 56 plate 2007 registered Toyota Auris 2.0 D4D. I've tried searching and it seems that on some Auris's the location is at the top front of the engine block near the radiator whereas on others it's located on the right hand side of the engine block, which looks like a bit more of an awkward location to get to - would anyone able to clarify? Also, what tools are required to do this job.

I'm pushing it a bit here but if anyone is able to describe the steps (again, pictures would be even better) involved in removing the EGR value in order to clean it?

My Auris spends 95%+ of it's life on short journeys and I'm led to believe that this is the reason for it losing power in low gears (hesitant acceleration for a few seconds then a puff of black smoke from the exhaust as the acceleration responds). I've been advised that trying Redex in the fuel tank & a 20 mile drive with the engine under rev load of 3,000+ should help to clear it short term but if I wanted to sort it medium term I would need to remove and clean the EGR valve, potentially replacing it and possibly the DPF if symptoms continue. Welcome any advice on this advice from my local garage.

thanks to all in advance

Many thanks for the replies, that does help as I'll perhaps give it a go myself if it's at the front!

If your diesel's getting a bit gummed up, it might be worth tipping a can of BG244 into the tank next time you fill up (after manually cleaning the EGR). It's pretty pricey stuff but it gets a good writeup from the people who have used it.

Hi guys and girls, I have a 1.6 petrol hatch, how do I know it this has an EGR valve or not, because every problem that I have read on it my car shows more or less the same hick ups. I have taken the I think it's called a throttle body off but after cleaning it and replacing it, it still has the issues, any advice will help, I thank you! It's not letting me add pics at all, how to solve this also? Thanks!

What is the code for your engine?

Usually it's a mix of 3 letters and 3 numbers, i.e. ADE186, NZE151, etc...

I doubt a petrol engine that age has an EGR, but I might be wrong.

Hi Koji,

The VIN number gives no useful info about the engine, at least not to me.

When you open the driver door, there is a sticker (usually black/white) on the frame, beside the tyre info. There you see a "model" for your vehicle, it usually starts with 3 letters and 3 numbers...

Correction: with the VIN number, you can enter in the megazip.net website and search for your car details.

It says you have a 2007-2009 car, model ZRE151 (what I asked you), engine 1ZRFE, manual transmission 5 gears, 3 doors, right hand drive...

But answering your question: no EGR there...

Hi Koji, thx for your help, sorry been a bit busy as of late and not been able to follow up on your feedback.

Thanks anyway, do appreciate it! 👍

Another quick question if I may, I see the valve timing has two solenoids on the top of engine, but they differ from one another the way the the connection points for the wiring sits, do you know if they both the same eventhough if this difference, and is the working the same?

Read on another forum that they are the ones causing most problems on the Toyota auris, thought I'll replace them but then the one in back is different as explained. Replaced one in front but no real difference, it still blow out white smoke like condensate and very uneven in idling and sometimes low power in some gears. It also sounds like hydraulic lifters that would need service or replacement in some cars, not sure if these cars have them?

Thx! 😊
