Heat Shield Under Petrol Tank And Above Exhaust And New Tyres.

One of the parts of this heat shield has rusted way and it has snapped where the bolt connects it to the underside of the car. It's making a bit of a rattle when being driven over pot holes. Anyone had similar and taken it off?

Also going to need four new tyres - two rears are pretty low and passenger side front has lots of wear on outside shoulder. Am presuming tracking needs checked bit anyone found some good tyres for a reasonable price?

Thanks

Ken

Another question.......car currently has 195/55 R16s on it and suspect I need 4 new tyres........any reason why I can't whack on 4 205/65 R16s onto it?

Thanks

Hi,

The heat shield seems so light would be tempeted to use some pop rivets and a bit metal /alum sheet to fashion a new braket.

Would not leave if off, they don't fit unseen parts like that for no reason, plus wonder if it would cause a problem at mot time ..?

Tracking, sound like the first thing to check though could be suspension / steering joint wear as well, had a proper inspection / mot recently ?

Tyres, cheapies are around £50, top quality around £90 -the old thing you get what you pay for - keeping the car long / doing higher than average milage, better quality could be more cost effective and safer.

Change tyres size, don't know what corolla year / model you have or if your wheels /bodywork will take the larger sizes.

Also consider they might affect your insurance.

Thanks oldcodger.....tend to agree re the heat shield....keep it on but nothing left to secure to the rest of the car....rust has eaten away and pretty much killed it. Will see if I can find a replacement or some way of fashioning a new one out of stainless steel maybe.....would last a lot longer that the soft metal they normally use.

RE tyres..the hand book for a T sport recommends 195/55 R16s or 205/55 R16s but obviously not to mix them. Sometimes think that the expensive tyres are just someone making more money rather than the tyre being twice as good as the budget ones. Can see some really decent tyres for about £65 locally - Nexens - and have had them before and they were fine but they are 205s and I currently have on 195s. Previous owner obviously had a problem as the spare tyre outside shoulder is worn down as well. It was probably on the passenger front side. So time to get tracking sorted methinks. So 4 new tyres, one decent one on as a spare and get the tracking and wheel balancing done.

Did you fit the 205 55 16 in the end? Blackcircles.com i found to be cheap and they have people local to you to fit them.

205/55/R16's are a common OE fit on a variety of C segment cars including the Auris, which is why prices tend to be reasonable.
