Multi-Mode 6Th Gear Problem

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I recently bought my first Auris and I'm already having some problems with it.

I'm still getting used to the multi-mode system, but I also believe there's something wrong with the transmission. I drive the car in E mode and I've noticed that when I drive more slowly than app. 90 km / h the transmission works ok. However, when driving more than 90 km / h the car doesn't automatically cane to the 6th gear. If I use the transmission pad manually to go from the 5th gear to 6th, then it stays that way until my speed slows down enough for the car to change back to the 5th gear. Has anyone experienced something similar or do you have ideas about what could be causing this?

Also, I feel the transmission isn't working quite properly at low speeds when driving on steep hills. It feels almost as if the gear would go into neutral for a while and the engine just yells while the car is hardly moving. I'm not sure if this is something that happens always with multi-mode or if it's something I should worry about.

I'm going to be in contact with the seller, but it'd be nicer to sound more knowledgeable when I do that. I don't know that much about cars :)

How old is the Auris? Does it have a 5 year toyota warranty still valid?

I would say this is quite normal. I had a MMT Yaris which was exactly the same. In E would not change up to 6th until approaching or over 70mph (112km/h), sometimes not if going up an incline. I even tried a manual change but the "brain" wouldn't accept that and changed down to 5th straight away.

In M mode however, it was possible to change up to 6th at 50/60mph.

I contacted the supplying main dealer and Toyota and was told this is quite normal. The "brain" decides the best gear for economy and conditions.

My MMT did some silly things going up hills, change up halfway up the hill causing the engine to labour then change down at the top! But I don't recall anything to the extent you describe. Maybe just needs a reset at a Toyota dealers.

I find it most odd that the car will change to 6th gear at lower speed but not when driving more than 90 km / h. It's clearly less economic to drive 100 km / h on the 5th gear than 6th. When I manually change to the 6th gear I can see the rounds (sorry, I don't know the proper word in English) go down and the average fuel consumption is lower.

The OP's profile says they are outside the UK, so the five year warranty won't apply.

There's a three year warranty in my home country, but the shop from which I purchased the car gave a two year warranty. I'd just like to know if any of you have ideas on what could be causing this and whether the other problem (the hill issue) I described is a feature or a defect.
