I have just purchased a 2007 Toyota Auris 2.0 D-4D TR, any idea if this model and year is fitted with the dreaded Diesel Particle Filter (DPF). Some reviews are stating that the early Auris's were fitted with DPF, while other reviews are stating that they were first introduced in 2008.

According to the Honest John review, the 2.0 litre D4D was fitted with a DPF from April 2009, which coincided with the other Optimal Drive improvements:

April 2009

Toyota Auris revised for 2009 with new Toyota Optimal Drive powertrains. Introduction to range of new 1.6-litre Valvematic petrol engine with nine per cent better fuel economy, eight per cent lower CO2 emissions, but six per cent more power compared to previous 1.6 VVT-i unit. 1.4 and 2.0 D-4D and 2.2 D-CAT 180 engines revised for more torque, lower emissions and improved fuel efficiency. Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) added to 2.0 D-4D engine, bringing emissions in line with Euro 5 standards. New six-speed manual and MultiMode transmissions. Revised grade structure with four trim levels T2, TR, T Spirit and SR180. On sale from 18-4-2009, prices from £12,900 on the road.

Can anyone explain what you are looking for under the car if you have a dpf. I know I have a middle box, that I believe is a resonator as there are no tubes going to it for the dpf burn/monitoring equipment. How close is it to the engine, or is it mounted further back along the exhaust? If anyone has any pictures comparing one with the other, this would be handy.

It is not necessary to look unde the car. The easiest way is probably to check if you have differential pressure sensor which is easily visible under the hood.

Anyway DPF or Catalytic converter is mounted directly on the turbo behind the engine. DPF is bigger comparing CCo and have few hoses and sensors mounted on its body.

That middle box is not the resonator but another CCo.

DPF is probably followed by O2 sensor which is easily visible from under the car and is located between DPF and 2nd CCo.

Im going to take some pictures
